## REMARKS.

A. LAND REVENUE: Arrears outstanding on the 1st January 1847, £8057, 5s. 6d.; due for the year 1847, £13,225, 5s. 7d. The decrease in 1849 is caused by the loss of the Annual Rent of £1751, 16s. 11d. on lots since resumed by Government.

B. The decrease for 1849 on RENTS EXCLUSIVE OF LAND, arises from the Albany Buildings, from which an Annual Rent of £333, 6s. 8d. was derived, having been handed over to the Military Authorities for Barracks.

C. The £80 estimated under AUCTION DUTY for 1849, is for the Quarter ending 31st December, 1848. The Duty has been recommended to be abolished.

D. The SALT FARM is annually put up for Public Competition, and the probable amount for 1848 has been estimated for the year 1849. The proceeds from this License for 1847, were £979, 3s. 4d. sterling.

E. The OPIUM FARM, which produced £325 per month, was abolished on the 1st August 1847, and Licenses have been granted in lieu thereof, the average Monthly Revenue of which for the 5 months to 31st December 1847, was £180, and for the 6 months to 1st July 1848, £171. The Total Revenue from Opium during 1847 amounted to £3183, 6s. 8d. sterling.

F. The privilege of QUARRYING STONE is put up for Public Competition annually; it produced in 1847, £502, 1s. 8d.; and for the year ending 1st September 1849, it has been sold for £625.

G. The POST OFFICE REVENUE is accounted for by the Postmaster in Hongkong to the Postmaster General in London.

H. The FINES in 1847 amounted to £849, 5s. 2d.; FORFEITURES, to £275, 8s. 4d.; and FEES to £1384, 12s. 4d., of which the Fees from the Supreme Court amounted to £1348, 4s. 6d., which for the half year to 1st July 1848 became reduced to £307, 18s. 0d., being at the rate of £615, 16s. 0d. per annum; they however began to increase in August 1848.

I. The FEES for registering BOATS, &c., received during 1847, amounted to £909, 7s. 8d. The decrease in the estimate for 1849 is £109, 7s. 8d., the other sums received under the head of FEES OF OFFICE are estimated at much the same as last year.

J. £250, being for the materials of the old Government Offices.

K. Amongst REIMBURSEMENTS OF EXPENSES INCURRED BY GOVERNMENT for 1847, were the following items, disallowed by Her Majesty's Government--£237, 11s. 11d., recovered from the Sheriff, being Fees received by him from Government on Criminal Cases: £46, 17s. 6d., allowance paid in 1846 to the Colonial Chaplain; £20, 16s. 8d., Fees received by the Attorney General in Crown Cases; £70, Expenses of a Law Suit, recovered from the Accountant General of Her Majesty's Navy; as also £135, 10s. 5d., received from the Postmaster for alterations made in and fitting up the Post Office; £37, 6s. 8d., for the Maintenance of Military Prisoners, &c., &c.

L. No Proceeds from the Sale of PORT REGULATIONS and CHARTS since 1845.
